Why you must visit Ibiza in winter

Those of us who reside on the iseland, the full 365 days of the year, get to see both sides of the coin. Ibiza is nature, culture, gastronomy, tradition… Ibiza is a hell of a lot much than the beach and wild parties. We suggest 19 ways to get the absolute most out of the “fresher” days on the White Island.

  1. Discover the Hidden Gems of Dalt Vila: The winter and autumn mornings and evenings are perfect to take a stroll around the streets of Dalt Vila, or take in the wonderful Virgen de las Nieves Cathedral. During the summer it’s simply too hot, and the streets are heaving with tourists.

  2. Magical Sunsets: The famous Ibizan Sunsets are even more beautiful wintertime. In winter it’s common for the sun to fall under a haze in its final hours. Right in front of your eyes, you get a glimpse of the Astro King in all his glory. The spectacle has been served!

  3. The White Towns: Santa Gertrudis, San Carlos, Es Cubells, San Josep… the small town of Ibiza a quite enchanting with their narrow streets and lively town squares. Grab a drink in their bars, walking through or sitting down, the Town Squars are a delightful way to say goodbye to the busy season gone by, getting a glimpse of a more authentic atmosphere.

  4. Take a hike: The lovers of this sport will make the most of their favourite time of year. The cooler temperatures trigger a huge outpouring of hikers across the island. If you’d like to find some new parts of the island, all the while meeting new people and getting outdoors, visit the Facebook page of Walking Ibiza, a group who get together to trail blaze the island, with no shortage of followers.

  5. Lunches which go on till Sunset: The beauty of the Ibizan gastronomy is that it’s so abundant and plentiful that it’s not so uncommon for lunches to go on till evening. Dishes like the Bullit de Peix or Matanzas Rice, are perfect for those family get-togethers, por friendly meet ups which go on that little bit longer. There are many Ibizan restaurants that open during winter, as well as a number of options you’ll continue to have, to have your meal by the sea.

  6. Parousing through the Street Markets: Las Dalias (San Carlos), San Jordi, Cala Llenya… The Parousing through the street markets of these towns are one of the the favourite pastimes of those who reside year long on the island Reasons being not just the great merchandise on offer, but the social aspect of the experience.

  7. Greene Sundays at Casita Verde: Get to see a different side of the country side, learning some greener values, and enjoying 100% vegetarian meals…. all this put to hand by the not-for-profit organisation, Ibiza Ecologic. Casita Verde is open to visitors every Sunday between 14:00 and 19:00 o’clock.

  8. Language Exchanges: The biggest language exchange group, ABLA IBIZA, organises many different get together in bars or the open air from October to June. Get yourself to the next one!

  10. Discover the History of the Island by visiting its Museums: The art the present and the future… The museums of Ibiza possess an unending source of history which begs to be let out. Make the most of the cold winter afternoons and grab a piece of cultural history on offer. The museum of culture and art. (MACE), the archaeological museum of Ibiza and Formentera, the Puget Museum… Ibiza houses much more than meets the eye.

  11. The Nightlife: The majority of the bigger night clubs close during the off season, with Pacha being the only mainstream night club, opening its doors each and every weekend and national holiday. However there is another side to the Ibizan nightlife during the winter. Underground nights are organised frequently. El Veto offers the most alternative of nights out; some popular restaurants like, Sushipoint, organise parties attended by people from all around the island. Smaller bars and pubs offer a more vaied atmosphere, like La Kokotxa (a legendary local pub reasonably priced even if it sounds a little bit too much) the Teatro Pereyra (with interesting offerings of live music), or 9 Nine, where you can enjoy some expertly prepared cocktails.

  12. Take the Pintxo Trail through the Centre of Ibiza: Bars with pintxo forks are becoming ever more popular in the city centre of Ibiza. Going from one to the other while you make your way through the pintxa trail becomes an ever more frequent occurrence during the winter months.

  13. Secluded Beaches: If you think the beaches and coves of Ibiza are nice during the winter, wait till you get to experience them in the winter. Crystal clear waters, clean sand and absolute calm. It’s the best best time to make the most of beaches like Salinas Beach, White Waters, Conta Cove or Saladeta Cove, as well as many more, which during the summer are complete inundated with tourists.

  14. Take The Walk of the Blossoming Almond Tree in The Valley of the Corona: Between the months of January and March this impressive visual spectacle is created in various locations scattered throughout the island. Where the Almond Trees are perhaps most impressive is throughout the fields spreading out from the coastal town of Santa Agnes de la Corona.

The Best Photography the Island has to Offer: If you’re passionate about photography, now’s your chance: during Autumn, Winter and especially Spring, Ibiza shows off the best it has to offer: Vivid colours, deserted landscapes, picture perfect clouds and that light which just seems to characterise the whole island.
