Autumn walks in Ibiza

The summer is over, but in Ibiza, we are still seeing people on the beach. However, the weather is uncertain and we must have some alternatives when the day is cloudy or windy. Ibiza offers a lot of things to do, here you have our 10 suggestions for Autumn:

1) Dalt Vila:During the 23rd session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Morocco from 29 November to 4 December 1999, Ibiza, based on natural and cultural criteria, was declared World Heritage. The Upper Town of Ibiza Dalt Vila is an excellent example of a fortified acropolis which preserves in an exceptional way in its walls and in its urban fabric successive imprints of the earliest Phoenician settlements and the Arab and Catalan periods through to the Renaissance bastions. The long process of building the defensive walls has not destroyed the earlier phases or the street pattern, but has incorporated them in the ultimate phase.

2) Ses Salines: Ses Salinas National Park consists of an area situated between the south of the island of Ibiza and the north of Formentera, and covers an area of 1,786·52 hectares onland and 13,611·80 hectares offshore. A wide variety of differing natural features can be found, from salt lakes and beaches to lunar cords with centuries-old ghost trees, cliffs and rocky coastlines.

3) Santa Gertrudis: This quiet inland village has become one the most charming rural centres in the island. Eating a cured ham roll in any of its pavement cafes is a tradition for both locals and travellers. It also has handicrafts shops, antique shops, and avant-garde cuisine restaurants.

4) Es Amuts: The northern end of Ibiza is the most virgin territory, with flirty villages like Sant Joan, Sant Mateu or Sant Llorenc; beautiful plains of red earth, as Corona or Pla d'Albarca, and a rugged coastline with defense towers, cliffs and islands on the horizon. The possibilities are endless lost.

5) Puig de Missa: The Puig de Missa of Santa Eulària was declared picturesque spot by means of Decree dated 4th August 1952; protection which was later assimilated to this of Good of Cultural Interest with the category of historical place both for the church with its defence tower as for the whole mount.

6) Platjes de Compe: Group made up of several small coves, located in a natural environment of eztraordinary beauty. You will be able to gaze at the colourful spectacle of sun at sunset with the small islands of s´Espartar, des Bosc and sa Conillera as silent witnesses. The combination of sand brithness and the reflection of the sun on its waters of turquoise colour make of this place a real heaven at any time of the year.

7) Sa Talaia: Sa Talaia, the highest woodland in the island, 475 m high, is located in the centre of the municipality. It offers one of the best views in the island. You can visit important archaeological sites in Sant Josep, such as Sa Caleta’s Phoenician village (VII B.C.), founded by the first settlers in the island and declared World Heritage, or Ses Païses de Cala d’Hort, a Punic-Roman settlement.

8) Torre del Pirata: It is the access of the most incredible scenery that can offer Ibiza: the islets of Es Vedra and Es Vedranell and the coast of Cala d'Hort. At the foot of the tower Sa Pedrera Cala d'Hort, a former quarry sandstone that makes up a mystical place is also located. The descent is tough, but unforgettable.

9) Pou des Lleó: This small cove is located in the mouth of the Canal d´en Marti an excepcional seaworthy corner surrounded by the traditional fishermen stalls. Though the beach is very small, we can find along the coast countless corners perfect to have a bath and sunbathe. Take the opportunity to taste the local gastronomy in the restaurants of the area. In the surroundings you can visit the Torre d´en Valls.

10) Sa Caleta: A fishermen cove frequented by families, of small size where there is a predominance of dry-dock stalls. Closed and very protected from winds and swell, it is a place very much frequented by people of Ibiza who like spending there sunny days off, bathing among friends and family in its crystal waters. You can finish off the excursion visiting the rest of the nearby Phoenician settlemnt of Sa Caleta, VII century b.C; declared Word Heritage.
