Crowd-free Ibiza: getaway for a quiet Mediterranean break

Exploring a crowd-free Ibiza is easier than you think if you choose the right time, place and type of experiences. Aside from the usual circuits, the island offers quiet plans, nature and wellbeing for those who truly want to unwind.

Travelling at an unhurried pace in Ibiza and exploring its most peaceful spots means parking your car and walking to a remote cove, travelling to the island before or after the peak season, getting away from the most popular circuits, allowing the island to reveal itself gradually, without strict itineraries... And obviously, choosing the right time of the day. Early mornings and evenings are quieter times and the sun rays aren’t as strong, so you also protect your skin.

Quiet coves and nature trails

Getting away from the crowds will allow you to explore a quieter, more authentic Ibiza. To swim, beyond the start and end of the season, there are quite coves and beaches that given their location or characteristics, attract few swimmers. For example:

  • Cala Llentrisca: you get there by foot and it’s perfect for those who seek silence and nature.
  • Cala Codolar: its name comes from the word “codols”, which means pebbles, as they cover the beach and access to the water and is therefore only suitable for swimmers who aren’t put off by the lack of sand. This cove is usually pretty empty, even in August.
  • Es Portitxol: perfect to combine a walk and swim in a remote spot. Remember to take water with you.
  • Cala Rotja: a spot on the coast near Pou des Lleó where you can dip into the water from the boathouses.

  • Cala Galera: next to Punta Galera, it’s pretty rocky but not so much you can’t swim. Bear in mind you have to park at quite a distance and walk there. If you're staying at Hostal La Torre, there’s a pleasant walk along the coast to this cove from the hotel.
  • Cala Xuclar: on the northern coast, this cove is a great option as long as the wind isn’t blowing in from the sea.
  • Other known beaches that, given their features or size, allow you to relax without feeling crowded are Cala Llonga, Es Figueral, Cala Marina, Cala Molí (also pebbly at first), Canal de Sant Martí...

And as for nature, Ibiza has so many trails for hikes or bike rides. Like the nature walks surrounded by almond trees, vineyards and stone walls around Santa Agnès or Sant Mateu; the trail up to the top of Sa Talaia, the highest mountain in Ibiza; or the coast trails that connect, for example, Sant Antoni to Cala Salada; Port des Torrent to Cala Bassa and Platges de Comte; and Santa Eulària to Cala Pada, Cala Martina, Es Canar, Cala Nova and Cala Llenya.

Sunsets away from the crowds in Ibiza

Sunset is one of the most special times on the island but also one of the most crowded if you don't choose the right place. For a quieter experience, remember these tips:

  • Look for higher or relatively unknown spots on the western coast, like any spot on the coast between Cala Bassa and Platges de Comte; Sa Talaia peak, the area surrounding Port des Torrent, the Cap Blanc outcrop, between Caló des Moro and Cala Gració...
  • Get there early to avoid last-minute drives and unnecessary rushes or ending up in a crowded spot.
  • Avoid the most popular coves, like Cala d´Hort (forget about a chill magic sunset there!).
  • Consider spaces like Hostal La Torre, where the sunset is enjoyed from a more contained, peaceful setting accompanied by fabulous DJ sets of Balearic Sound music.
